Ended up taking a red taxi truck to airport plaza as it's half way to the gym and figured it would be easier. The main city part of Chiang Mai is inside a moat and walls, which is fucking awesome as hell if you think about it. Something about old cities like this really inspire me, my favorite city of all time was Antigua in Guatemala that was similar and amazing.

Ended up walking around Airport Plaza looking for padded cycling shorts, which they don't sell so bring your own. I was starving and got tempted by a huge light up menu that had everything I was craving to eat on it all for $10.50 So I splurged and went in. I figured it was only 12pm and I had four hours to digest. Boy was I wrong. I ended up taking a nap and not wanting to wake up, I was sluggish and walked half the run and suffered on the pads and in sparring.
Tip of the day: Do not eat a huge buffet meal for lunch if you plan on running and doing Muay Thai in the afternoon, it is a terrible idea.
Even though I will never ever ever eat this again before training, it's an awesome treat to go to on a Sunday for dinner once in a while. 315 baht is a lot of money considering you can get 7 normal meals for that, but if you think about it it's $10.50 including tax and tip which makes it like having a $7.99 meal in the U.S. which is nothing. Tuna Rolls, Sukiyaki beef, pork, fish and veggies. All really healthy and packed with protein. It's a great way to load up and really get full after a hard week's training. But personally I'm going to try to save it only for special occasions. I'm actually quite happy with the small portions and my stomach shrinking.
That was just the start, trust me I killed the buffet. |
So basically, today was the 3rd training session and since I killed the buffet, I didn't kill it on the pads. We started with a warm up run, luckily it wasn't too hot today. I forgot that we're up in the mountains and it gets cooler here during the months of October - February. Highs drop to 28-30c (84* Fahrenheit and at night it drops down to 13-15c (55* Fahrenheit) So basically, I sucked at the run, my sore calves are no excuse, it was mainly from over doing it during lunch. We did five rounds of pad work, switching off between trainers doing thai pads and boxing mitts, which is a really cool thing. I learned some good combinations with my punches from Chon and learned to bring my guard back quicker after getting slapped a few times by him.
Sparring today was good as well, I'm really glad KC does it often as I know how important it is. Some other gyms I went to would clinch 4 days a week and only spar 2 which sucked. I know clinching is important, but I don't want to do it more than twice a week. First two rounds was with a thai guy, it's always interesting sparring with Thai guys because they make sparring kind of a game. Then I sparred with a tall English guy that's trained at KC in the past and just returned today. It's always good to train with guys taller than me as it changes up the dynamic. Ended the session with group sit ups, and yoga. Really glad I dragged my ass out of bed and went even though I wasn't 100%.
Warm Regards,
Johnny at My Fight Camp
