New Pornsaneh and Yodkhoopon Sitmonchai Documentary

One a champion, the other just beginning his career. A journey through the sport of Muay Thai, pushing one another to become the best fighters they can be.  Check out the preview of this new documentary.

My friend Michael Calvin is starting to film a documentary about Yodkhoopon Sitmonchai and Pornsaneh, two legendary Muay Thai Fighters based in Thailand.   If you want to see this project and get a copy of it, or even better, get a credit at the end, check out his page at: http://www.indiegogo.com/Pornsaneh-and-Yodkhoopon-Sitmonchai-Documentary

The Story - What Will This Documentary Be About?

The film will be an independent documentary following the lives of these two fighters as they for fights that could change the whole course of their lives. It will be mostly shot in Thamaka, Kanchanaburi, Thailand. I hope to shoot it in the beginning of May 2012. The final product will be a documentary and instructional video sold online for digital download at an affordable price. I've been waiting for years to create a documentary of this kind , and so I'm asking for your help!

The film will contrast the lives of Pornsaneh and Yodkhoonpon Sitmonchai. Pornsaneh, a seasoned veteran and accomplished fighter in the Muay Thai world, will travel to the Netherlands for his first international fight at Slamm VII Holland vs Thailand, a major event on the global Muay Thai calendar. With his country watching devotedly and thousands of fight fans eager  to see how he performs, Pornsaneh will carry a lot of hope and expectations along with a lifetime of experience and training.

Meanwhile, 17 year-old Yodkhoonpon finds himself on the other side of the spectrum. Finally getting recognized for his talent in the ring, the Thai press has sometimes referred to Yodkhoonpon as a young Pornsaneh. His matches are often exciting, edge of your seat affairs and as such he has attracted a lot of attention from the national community. With a string of knockouts to his name, the young fighter has won against many top-ranked fighters, and is well on his way to becoming a champion himself.

The sport of Muay Thai itself is a fascinating and complex subject, steeped in culture and tradition and strongly tied into the socio-economic structure of the country. We will take you behind the scenes to look into this world as we follow both Pornsaneh and Yodkhoonpon preparing for their upcoming bouts. The film will explore what the life of a Muay Thai fighter is like, growing up in a camp, the Sitmonchai family, the fighters’ thoughts on Muay Thai, why they fight, how they feel about their upcoming matches.

  1. Hey!! :) I´ve been reading your blog for the last 2-3 hours now and it seems like you´ve been around ;) hehe

Im aiming to train 3 months in phuket myself... the plane ticket has already been booked and im having a hard time chosing a gym so that leads me to my question ;)
if you were to choose between TMT and PTT right now, which would you choose? If you dont want to tell me here, please send me an e-mail to phanteron@gmail.com

  2. Hey Stefan, i'm glad you enjoyed my blog. If you've spent the last 2-3 hours reading it, you'll already know that I don't have a clear choice between Tiger Muay Thai and Phuket Top Team. So my official answer for the which gym to choose debate is it depends on you.

If you want to be part of the big, well structured, popular gym then TMT. If you want to be a part of the smaller, more free flowing gym, that's a bit controversial then PTT is your choice.

For me personally, I am 100% happy with the time I spent training at Tiger Muay Thai, the only reason why I switched to Phuket Top Team is because I wanted something new. They both have their pros and cons. Sometimes classes at Tiger at too big with 30+ students which is good for motivation and teamwork but bad for personal attention. Sometimes classes at PTT are too small with only 1 other guy which is good for personal attention but bad for motivation. It's up to you.

Hey if you've read this far, you might as well at least leave a comment. Even just to say what's up! If you have any questions about training in Thailand just ask it here in the comments and I'll answer so everyone can benefit from it.
