Try Scuba Diving while you're in Phuket

One of the coolest things in the world is available in Phuket and no one ever does it.  Out of the hundreds of guys I've met at Tiger Muay Thai and at the other gyms, only a handful have ever went diving.  Most of them say they want to, but say they'll do it at the end of the trip before they go home.  The problem with that is towards the end when you start running low on money, you become a cheap ass and decide it's not worth it.

Well, big mistake, seriously.  When you go back home, you'll be happy you spend the hundred bucks doing a new experience and it'll be cheap when you look back on it.  Guys will spend the same 3,000 baht in a night or two at Patong, drinking, and messing around.  Trust me on this, do at least a trial dive, which they call a DSD or Discover Scuba Dive, it's a chance of a lifetime.  And if you are already certified, there is no reason not to go, the diving around Phuket is some of the best in the world.  It's half the price to do a fun dive in Koh Tao, but it's three times as good near Phuket.  Plus it's a whole boating experience.  Since it's a long boat trip, you get to relax, tan, and chill out on a big boat where they serve you a really good breakfast and lunch buffet, and food always tastes better on a boat for some reason.

My cousin is visiting from the U.S. and we're going fun diving on December 12th, and then again on the 14th.  Anyone that wants to tag along is more than welcome. Just leave me a comment if you want to come.  The price is around 3,800 baht for a three dive trip for certified divers, and around the same price for a single discover dive for beginners.  That's about $127US, which sounds like a lot, but trust me, it's worth it.

If you decide to go do it on your own after i'm gone, I recommend All 4 Diving Academy based in Patong.  But there are also closer dive shops in Chalong near the circle that you can check out.

Warm Regards,

Johnny @ My Fight camp

  1. Hey what do you know about scuba diving in koh lanta? I'm going to Koh Lanta to get my master scuba diver certificate (or at least the first 3 levels). Do you have any suggestions for combining scuba diving and MMA in Thailand?

  2. Hey Chad, scuba diving in Koh Lanta is awesome. It's not as cheap as Koh Tao in thailand, but you get better diving, more comfortable boat trips and food on the boat. I'd recommend either Lanta Divers or Kon Tiki.

There is an okay muay thai gym on Lanta too. But more gyms in Phuket.

  3. Johnny,

So how was your dive with your cousin? I'm coming over in a few weeks, and only have a week to train (not even sure if it's worth going to TMT for just a week) if it's only a Sunday - Saturday training week...I can't get there until a Wednesday, and only have 2-2.5 weeks in Asia on this trip. But diving sounds amazing. Outside of Phuket, any other beaches/islands you'd recommend to do on weekends when not training?

    1. Hey the diving was fantastic, I miss it now that i'm up in Chiang Mai but I'm sure i'll do it again before I leave. If you're near a muay thai gym, it'll be worth it just to go even for a class or two, just for the experience and to see if you want to come back next time for longer.

Koh Phi Phi is close to Phuket and is an awesome weekend out, Koh Lanta is even nicer but more expensive.

  4. Good to hear...I'm hoping to go for maybe a week of classes/sessions and then maybe hit an island or two and do some diving. Is it difficult to get to Koh Phi Phi and Koh Lanta from Phuket? And is it possible to get to Chiang Mai from Phuket too? Heard great things about the city...
Oh, and getting from the airport in Phuket to where TMT is... any guidance on that? (or is that info in any of your other posts?)

Hey if you've read this far, you might as well at least leave a comment. Even just to say what's up! If you have any questions about training in Thailand just ask it here in the comments and I'll answer so everyone can benefit from it.
