Turns out guys like Jake Shields, Nate, and Nick Diaz may be onto something with their Vegetarian UFC training. I noticed something strange about my body and mentioned it to Ben, a nutritionist that was training at Phuket Top Team. I told him that I wasn't tired at all, normally I need to take a nap around this time, and that I felt great. He said it was because my body didn't need to spend all that energy breaking down the animal protein and instead was able to use that same energy to recover.
I also mentioned this phenomena to Dave Asprey the author of the Bulletproof Executive Diet http://www.bulletproofexec.com/ where he advocates a majority meat and fat based diet which seems to work fantastic by the way if you live somewhere with access to the ingredients. He said that the reason was deeper than that. If I had been eating grass-fed beef, which is healthier and lower in toxins I wouldn't have the same recovery problems.
My suggestion is to test out your own body and see how you feel. It's easy, just have some Vegetarian food for a few days after training and see if you recover better than before. If it works, stick with it, if it doesn't try something else. The Vegetarian House is in Phuket near the Chalong Circle. There are three Vegetarian restaurants with simular signs on the same street. The one closest to Phuket Top Team and furthest from the circle is one you order off the menu and unfortunately is terrible. Ben and I went there once and was disappointed. I haven't tried the one closest to the circle, but it's walking distance from each other so I might try it someday.
For 50 baht ($1.67US) you get a choice of three items and a plate of white steamed rice. Brown rice is available for 10 baht extra. The restaurant is open from 5am - 3pm but it's best to get there before noon as they stop cooking before noon and you'll just get what ever is left.
This is my lunch from today. Bean sprouts with tofu, some type of kale or dark leafy vegetable and some type of chinese winter melon. You also get big plate of raw vegetables for free as well as free ice water. The raw veggies always includes sliced cold cucumber and then you get some random things like leaves. I don't particularly enjoy the taste of the bitter leaves but eat them anyways as I figure they are good for me.
Anyways, give it a shot and tell me how you like it.
Warm Regards,
Johnny Jen @ My Fight Camp
Below will be some UFC and Scientific facts all should be aware of:
ReplyDelete1. STEAK AND MEAT CONTAINS EFFEMINIZING LADIES ESTROGEN.
Steak contains feminine estradiol. If you eat lots of meat and steak, you are eating ladies female hormones. Meat farmers purchase steroid and hormone implants consisting of 17-Beta-Estradiol and have been implanting it into virtually all meat including 99% of all meat in the US. A concrete example of this is a compound issued by cattle stores to cow farmers called SYNOVEX-S. (look it up) SYNOVEX contains both Estrogen, and Progesterone. These are women's hormones, not mens. And they are akin to the fluids excreted by a girl when on her menses(period) into a menstrual pad. The juice, in each forkful 'big juicy steak' is gushing with these menstrual fluids in meat. FDA figures show that these are now found in 99% of all meat. If you eat meat, as an athlete or not, estrogen may over time begin to make a male develop a paunch ("pooch") type feminine stomach, a boy may begin to grow female breast tissue (known medically as "gynecomastia"), and men begin to develop rounded feminine shoulders and wide female hips, due to pure female estrogen in meat. Ironically, most less medically educated men falsely believe eating meat is somehow more masculine, when in reality eating meat has been feminizing them the entire time.
Didn't know this? Simply put "SYNOVEX-S CATTLE ESTRADIOL" into any search engine such as Google, and look it up.
What you will see is the package of Synovex which contains doses of 17-beta-estradiol (female estrogen) which is bought by livestock farmers and injected into virtually every piece of beef livestock in order for them to increase the weight so that the cattle farmer can obtain more money by puffing it up. Those that are uninformed will try to say that the implant fades before slaughter(false, lab restults tested steak positive for female hormones) or that they are taken off of it before slaughter(false, many of these have no withdrawal period and meat farmers ignore it and are never checked), or that the implant in the ear doesn't result in high levels (false, farmers often ignore this and put the implants in other locations as well). Another myth to watch out for is the false line that lettuce, or soy or somesuch thing somehow contains 'estrogen' or 'more estrogen' than meat-This has been debunked as fallacious. If you see any person attempt that line, their entire posting can be thrown out, plants cannot contain mammalian estrogen, at all, plants can only contain "phyto-estrogen" which is the plant-form which actually is better because it can BLOCK the effects of estrogen. What they've done is try to trick the public using the name, figuring that bodybuilders or men are not keen enough to know the difference between phyto-estrogen (plant form which actually blocks the real estrogen, makes you manlier) and mammalian estrogen (the real estrogen, found in animals, mammals, the kind that makes humans feminine). Note that scientifically and chemically, eating plants blocks the real estrogen and makes men manlier, eating meat and steak which contains the actual human, mammalian, or animal-form of estrogen is the type that can bind to receptors in a man's tissue and actually begin to make a man over time grow more feminized.
EATING STEAK CAN MAKE A MAN MORE EFFEMINATE
2. GRASS-FED BEEF MAY CONTAIN EFFEMINATE FEMALE HORMONES.
ReplyDeleteHormone Free is not the same as Grassfed. Many people who are less educated on the subject erroneously started to spread that grassfed beef is guaranteed hormone-free, this is scientifically False. Most people cheering 'grassfed' beef as somehow great, or better, are spreading false information. Either they are informed on the subject and intentionally trying to lobby you to purchase grassfed meat, or, the individual is simply not sufficiently informed and were duped themselves by someone telling them about grass-fed beef and they believed it. Here's what's happening. People spreading, applauding, and touting you to eat 'grass fed' beef are conflating grassfed with organic. These are NOT identical. There are 2 classifications: 1 is USDA Grassfed. 2 is USDA Organic. This is NOT the same as AGA! It is important to fully understand that USDA Grassfed does NOT mean the meat is hormone-free, anti-biotic free, or organic. Not all meat is AGA. You can have USDA certified Organic beef that is not grassfed. You can have USDA certified labled Grass-fed beef that is NOT organic.
You can have USDA Grassfed Beef, fully labled on the package as certified Grass Fed, that is soaked full of female hormones, implants, estrogen, progesterone, melangestrol, tetracyclines, and pesticides and is fully chemically contaminated. In order to understand this, you must realize that the official USDA and FDA classification for the rules of calling something "grass fed" ONLY deals with the eating of the grass, there is NO rule whatsoever in the documentation for the criteria for grass fed beef for it to be free of anything. Livestock meat farmers are only stipulated to give the cow forage. That's it.
FACT: "the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s grass-fed standard announced in October, allows animals confined to feedlots, cattle given antibiotics and beef given growth hormones to still be labeled ‘grass-fed’ -- as long as they were fed a forage diet."-Quote straight from the AMERICAN GRASS FED BEEF ASSOCIATION.
Therefore understand what this means: it meas that a beef farmer can take a sick cow, pump it up with female hormones, inject antibiotics, implant melangestrol, SYNOVEX-S, REVALOR-S, 17-beta-estradiol, douse it with Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rGBH), and that cow can be a Clone, that beef can be Genetically Modified, cross-bred, injected with Zeranol, and women's progesterone and menstrual hormones,... and as long as it ate what's called "Forage" then that meat can be sold championing the lable with the words GRASS FED BEEF, even though it is dripping with antibiotics and women's hormones. Vegetarians do not have this problem.
Also note several other points:
ReplyDeletea. Individuals pushing 'grass fed' beef will try to erroneously print that it has a better taste, guessing that you'll believe it and since it is subjective, no one will ever check it. They can use 'anecdotes' (single person testimonials) from the fewer people who claim to like it to 'prove it' to others, however the actual way to scientifically prove it is where the person does not know which kind is which, and is not coaxed. When this was investigated scientifically in a double blind experiment, over a LARGER more concrete amount of people, persons found the taste of grassfed meat to be horrible. Quote: "Taste-panel participants found the meat from grassfed animals to be characterized by “off-flavors including ammonia, gamey, bitter, liverish, old, rotten and sour.” Ammonia, the smell of much of grassfed beef, is the aroma found in Urine (pee). It is dry, less juicy, deficient in fat, known to be tougher, darker red color, stiff, and its fat is often 'yellowish' instead of marbled white.
b. Note that if you see ANY person cheer "lean meat", that person has just in effect stated that the fat found in meat should be avoided. In other words, if you see anyone recommending meat using the term "lean meat", that is an immediate admission that there is something in meat that is automatically unhealthy and not good and should not be eaten.
c. Any meat-eater recommending everyone to eat either "organic" meat or "grassfed" beef has just effectively admitted that 99% out of all meat is unhealthy. The reason is because the figures for grassfed and organic meat comprise ONLY 1% of all meat in north america. 99% of meat is Not organic or grassfed. FDA statistics show that barely 1% of all meat in north america is organic and grassfed. What that means is, that any person saying that they eat only organic grassfed meat has just admitted that 99% of all meat is unfit to eat. At this point, the question arises, what kind of diet is it, where 99% of its touted component is regarded as unfit for human consumption. The instant any individual brings up organic or grassfed meat, they've just admitted that 99% of all meat is unfit. And is also unaware that a main portion of that remaining 1% fraction they thought was hormone-free may also be contaminated.
NOTE: The individual identified as "Dave Asprey" who is spreading the false grassfed meat based diet is using conflation. Either this person is informed on the topic and is intentionally misinforming you, or this individual was unwittingly duped themselves on the topic and is now going around spreading false information as if it were true. In either case, this individual's diet plan can lead to health damage. In reality, if you followed this individual Dave Asprey's information, you could potentially be ingesting pieces of steak and meat that are effeminizing your muscle tissue. In addition to that, items in this individual's diet plan have been linked to Cancer. Including rectal cancer. It may feel great for a while, but following this diet has been scientifically found to potentially lead to cancer of your rear end. That includes meat that is grassfed.
Didn't know this? GO VIEW IT. TYPE THIS: "beef given growth hormones to still be labeled grass-fed" into GOOGLE and you can see it for yourself.
USDA CERTIFIED "GRASS FED BEEF" IS STILL PERMITTED TO CONTAIN LADIES FEMININE HORMONES
I don't remember Dave Asprey ever saying that grass-fed automatically means hormone-free. What I do remember Dave saying is that grass-fed is healthier than grain fed, which appears to be true. Another thing that you don't mention in your rant is that it is possible to purchase meat that is BOTH grass-fed and organic.
DeleteNot sure who this "fact watch" guy is or if his info is legit. But I'll leave it up there so you guys can do your own research and decide for yourselves.
ReplyDeleteSo to sum it up, Fact Watch is saying that even if you are buying grass fed beef you might still be getting hormones and antibiotics if I'm correct.
What is your solution that you are trying to get to? Are you pro-vegetarian or simply just warning people to look at labels more carefully and buy beef that is both grass fed and hormone free?

ReplyDeleteFact Watch has an interesting mix of "facts" and vegetarian extremism, but some of it is accurate. Non-organic grass-fed beef *can* have hormones in it, but if you're buying local it's unlikely. Organic certifications take 5+ years, so even if you're not dosing your cows with hormones, you can't label them organic even though they eat grass off your (soon to be organic) pasture and get no antibiotics or hormones.
ReplyDelete-
It's best to know where your beef comes from. I reference some safe sources on my site in the posts about grass fed beef.

As far as vegetarian extremism, "anyone who says eat only organic or grass fed is admitting that 99% of meat is unhealthy." That's an example of hysterical thinking. I do actually believe that it's unsafe and counterproductive to eat grain fed beef, or to eat grass-fed beef from some big company without published standards you believe. But that doesn't mean meat is bad for you; what it means is that we have poisoned our food supply so that meat (which is healthy) is now dosed with omega 6 oils and metals and antibiotics and hormones (and mycotoxins which that dude doesn't know about). What I'm saying is that those things are bad for you! But cows aren't 99% of the meat on the planet. People are the largest biomass, but I wouldn't eat them either.
-
As far as the vague claims that my diet will lead to rectal cancer, this is also vegetarian propaganda. Read my extensive post about Steve Jobs and cancer at http://www.bulletproofexec.com for actual studies showing that vegetarians have more cancer than people who eat meat - even the crappy poisoned meat most people eat.

As for "fact watch" claims that estrogen in soy has been debunked, that's funny. You can't debunk away the existence of feminizing chemicals in soy - or phytates which block mineral absorbtion - or thyroid-damaging goitrogens. It's widely known in alternative medicine. The only people who eat soy on purpose now are misled people who saw an article somewhere and are now damaging their health, and vegan radicals who walk around angry all the time because they are starving their brains of nutrients. Oh, and babies who have it in their formula and end up growing boobs and pubic hair as young as 3 years old as a result. You can't debunk that.
-
Johnny, excess protein is bad news during training. You want to increase your ability to absorb it by taking digestive enzymes with it, and by taking ornithine at night (which raises GH and helps your body eliminate ammonia from excess protein). And you want to cycle your protein - do about 21 days of high protein (unheated/raw whey doesn't cause the same problem as most protein supplements; I can ship Upgraded Whey to Thailand when it comes out...) and then do a couple weeks of mostly veg to help your body detox. Go with how you feel.
-
But don't make the mistake of believing that because you feel fine now on a vegetarian diet that it's the right diet for you long term. You will slowly degrade your performance unless you test your assumptions and your performance regularly. The ring is a good place to do that!
-
I've done almost a year of veg, about 5 months of raw vegan, and almost a year of raw omnivore (with raw eggs, beef, lamb, fish, and chicken thrown in). Also toss in some intermittent fasting (or Bulletproof Fasting which uses MCT or coconut oil and butter in coffee in the morning to increase performance and fat loss) to allow for autophagy.
-
It will help you literally kick ass! And it will do more than either an all-high-protein diet or a vegetarian diet. And keep your quality fats high.
Fact Watch - Sorry I had to remove your last two posts as they were too long and not adding anymore value from what you originally said. To sum up his last two posts: he is recommending you to google the terms mentioned above and do your research.
ReplyDeleteDave Asprey - Thanks for taking the time to comment and clarify things. I agree to be weary of anyone who is too extreme in any one side and like the fact that you have tested out the different ways of thought on yourself before coming up with the bullet proof diet. You are like the new Timothy Ferris bro.
Anyone who hasn't checked out Dave's blog yet, I'd highly recommend it, www.BulletProofExec.com
SOY & INFANTS = FALSE.
ReplyDeleteThe "Soy Hoax" was found to be fallacious and was traced to a fringe anti-health lobbyist group identified as "The Weston A. Price Foundation" that is listed on QUACKWATCH.ORG and debunked as a quack nutritional organization. This group is often quoted by those without medical certification, blogsters, those 'personal trainers' with no nutritional degrees, on chat-boards, etc. This myth was traced to WAPF, and comes from a paper by Sally Fallon-Morell, Mary G. Enig, and Kaayla T Daneil. It is also perpetuated by another debunked individual Dr. Joseph Mercola. Mercola was recently cited by Federal Authorities for dispensing false and/or misleading nutritional information by the United States of America. Mercola is an honorary Board Member of the WAPF. This is where many who are unfamiliar have obtained this false soy myth and infant misinformation. It was revealed to be medically false.
It is understandable to be fooled by it, as this myth is spread all over the place. Despite how often it is repeated however, does not achieve making it true. This is a well-known hoax that has duped many who are not medically educated on the subject.
HERE IS THE PROPER INFORMATION:
SOY MEDICALLY CONFIRMED TO HAVE NO-EFFECT ON INFANTS:
"The American Academy of Pediatrics just published their updated position paper on soy formula and concluded, there is No conclusive evidence from animal, adult human, or infant populations that dietary soy isoflavones may adversely affect human development, reproduction, or endocrine function."
http://nutrition.about.com/od/meatsandproteinsources/a/soyboys.htm
Please note, that this proper information is coming direct from medically certified experts in child physiology at the American Academy of Pediactrics.
DR. JOSEPH MERCOLA, cited by FEDERAL AUTHORITIES.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.casewatch.org/fdawarning/prod/2005/mercola.shtml
Doctor Joseph Mercola was cited by the United States of America, for spreading false and/or misleading health and nutrition information.
Mercola is linked to the WAPF extremist fringe group Weston A. Price Foundation. Mercola and the WAPF were traced as the source of the fallacious Soy Scam false information such as 'soy contains estrogen'(false).
This is part of the questionable material being put forth by "The BulletProofExec Dave Asprey".
Didn't know this? View it for yourself.
Type "JOSEPH MERCOLA FEDERAL WARNING CASEWATCH" into any search engine and verify the action taken against this individual by federal authorites yourself.
Your claims are misleading! All Joseph claimed was that healthy oils, including his oil, which is just his brand of COCONUT OIL, can be beneficial to your health. He states that in these times of ill health, which can be because of poor diet and eating horrible foods, that his oil can be part of a healthy diet and prevent certain health conditions!
DeleteThe FDA screwed him over by classifying his coconut oil as a drug by nailing him on a technicality, stating that his oil is now considered a drug because of the claims that he made.
You should also know that as a vegan, coconut oil is a very popular among vegetarians and vegans, as it is a great source of nutrients. Did you even read your own "research" before you copy and pasted those links?
UFC MMA FACTS:
ReplyDeleteA VEGETARIAN INVENTED THE ENTIRE UFC.
To all good fighters out there, and MMA readers, a fact that you may find interesting is that the entire UFC ULTIMATE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP was created by a Vegetarian. Types of vegetarians include Lacto-vegetarians that include dairy, ovo-vegetarians that include eggs, pesca-vegetarians that include fish, and Ovo-Lacto vegeterians that include both eggs and milk. Vegans are a category in itself which includes no animal products at all.
The UFC was invented by RORION GRACIE, whose uncle was Carlos Gracie. Rorion Gracie is the man who invented "The Octagon" and the UFC, and brought the idea to the United States. The first UFC competitions revolutionized the conception of Martial Arts, and introduced Gracie Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ), and the specific term "MMA" to the world.
After some time, due to several US Bans against the UFC which hurt attendance, Rorion Gracie and his promoter sold the UFC and its name to Zuffa, via Dana White. Dana White is not the original creator of the UFC. The man who created the UFC is the great Rorion Gracie. If you practice MMA, and enjoy the UFC, you may be interested to know that the man who started it all, that invented the whole UFC, followed a VEGETARIAN diet.
Quote from Rorion Gracie himself: "Uncle Carlos, my father, Ryron and I among many other Gracies do not eat meat."-Rorion Gracie, Inventor of the UFC.
FACT: THE ENTIRE UFC WAS CREATED BY A VEGETARIAN, RORION GRACIE
